Today, the Chinese multinational technology company, OPPO has officially announced the unveiling of her first self-developed imaging NPU, MariSilicon X on the Find X5 Series.
Recall that last year, the Chinese smartphone giant noted that her first self-developed imaging NPU, MariSilicon X will make its commercial debut on the Find X Series by the first quarter of 2022.
Then, speaking on the 6nm Cutting-edge Imaging NPU at the OPPO INNO DAY 2021, the OPPO’s Senior Director, Jiang Bo, said:
“With more than a decade of experience in pushing the boundaries of image technology, OPPO has been behind some of the biggest innovations in the industry when it comes to camera modules, lenses, and algorithms,”
“Our new cutting-edge imaging NPU is the biggest leap we’ve taken so far, which brings more power to mobile imaging systems and will create an extraordinary experience for our users.” Bo added.
The NPU on the MariSilicon X can perform 18 trillion operations per second, which is more than enough computational capacity for our AI algorithms. With a staggering 11.6 TOPS per watt power efficiency, the NPU delivers top-level performance without depleting the battery.
The NPU also includes a ground-breaking dedicated tera-bps memory subsystem, which allows MariSilicon X to fully utilize the NPU’s computing capability without being constrained by memory, dramatically lowering the time it takes to copy data back and forth between storage and processing units.
The MariSilicon X offers a dedicated DDR with up to 8.5 GB/s of extra bandwidth. Its multi-tier memory architecture saves power consumption and delays caused by unnecessary repeated read-write cycles.
When compared to the OPPO Find X3 Pro, MariSilicon X can deliver up to 20x faster performance when using OPPO’s AI Noise Reduction Algorithm. By applying complicated upgrades to each frame in real-time, MariSilicon X can capture 4K AI Night Video.
The MariSilicon X includes a strong ISP that allows photos to be shot with a 20bit 120db dynamic range, which is 4x that of the Find X3 Pro. It offers photos a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio between the brightest and darkest regions of the image, making them more lifelike.
MariSilicon X also unlocks the full potential of OPPO’s RGBW sensor, supporting the separation and fusion of RGB and White signals to deliver an 8.6dB improvement in signal-to-noise ratio and a 1.7x improvement in texture quality, making images more expressive in both photos and videos, thanks to its Dual Image Pipeline design and double raw supersampling.
MariSilicon X, as a dedicated imaging NPU, ushers in a new era in computational photography. It harnesses the power of AI Noise Reduction algorithms to deliver clearer and crisper films, thanks to its tremendous leap in both performance and battery economy.
It also has a higher dynamic range and better color reproduction, making each frame look as rich and detailed as a still photograph. For the first time, Android phones will be able to capture 4K AI HDR Night Video, which is first featured on the Find X5 Series.
