From Tech to Trees: 5 Technologies helping the Environment

Climate change is here, and the environment is reeling from the impact of extreme weather, pollution, and other problems. It’s time to implement technology that helps the environment rather than harms it. Fortunately, innovative thinkers have created technologies that can help reduce the threat of climate change and save planet Earth.

Erosion control technology

Many environmental problems come from excessive amounts of carbon entering the atmosphere. The added carbon affects the water cycle, dropping more rain in places that aren’t accustomed to it. With all of that rain, coastal areas and areas near rivers and lakes suffer from rising amounts of erosion.

Erosion control technology helps reduce erosion, keeping waterways flowing and coastal homes and businesses standing. The technology can also help reduce erosion from damaging winds and drought conditions.

Electric truck fleets

It’s no secret that diesel engines in buses and semi-trucks damage the atmosphere. Consumers are turning to electric vehicles to reduce emissions from combustion engines, and truck fleets need to do the same. Engineers are developing battery-electric vehicles with robust electric motors to manage heavy-duty jobs.

Electric truck fleets can use charging stations along their routes, and the charging stations can use renewable energy from wind turbines and solar panels.

Plastic from renewable sources

Most plastics come from petroleum-based fossil fuels–a non-renewable resource that harms the environment. The latest plastics come from biodegradable plant-based sources, so they don’t pollute waterways like petroleum-based plastics do. Before plant-based plastics become the norm, it’s time to stop using single-use plastic items like utensils, straws, and bags.

Plant-based meat

Farms with grazing animals like cows and pigs need significant water and grazing land. Around the world, the beef industry is responsible for deforestation which reduces the number of trees that can help neutralize carbon emissions. Overall, raising animals for meat consumption harms the environment.

The best way to stop this problem is for more people to choose plant-based meat. Companies that produce “fake meat” use eco-friendly practices, helping reduce the impact of grazing farms and excessive water use. Plant-based meat tastes great and has a similar texture to meat from cows, chickens, as well as pigs.

Solar glass

Solar panels have a distinctive look, and the technology requires special installation procedures. Instead of adding large panels to buildings, engineers have developed solar glass. This emerging technology behaves like solar panels, collecting energy from the sun and converting it into energy.

High-performance solar panels collect solar energy because of their dark color. Solar glass is not as efficient because it is clear to let light pass through it. Engineers are still working on making solar glass more efficient, so the billions of square meters of glass on buildings around the country can supply nearly half of the electricity needed to run them.

Wrap up

Protecting the planet should be everyone’s concern. However, developing eco-friendly technologies that help the environment can slow down climate change and allow the earth to heal. These planet-pleasing technologies show that there is hope for the Earth of the future.
