Apple expands its autonomous vehicle program with ten more drivers

In a bid to expand its autonomous vehicle, the American multinational technology company, Apple has increased the numbers of its drivers by ten.

According to reports, the tech giant has raised the number of drivers who are permitted to operate its self-driving vehicle, a figure that could signal a faster pace of testing before the vehicle’s release.

Apple is expected to officially announce its vehicle by 2025, whether it will be produced in-house or in conjunction with other automakers as speculations have been ongoing.

By California’s law, each company must register autonomous vehicles and drivers who are meant to be on the road for testing purposes.

In accordance with California Licensing Office’s publications and updates, MacReports reported that most firms, including Apple, have boosted the number of drivers and vehicles registered with the licensing agency. Waymo is the only company that has lowered the size of its fleet and the number of drivers.

Comparing the January publications to the current ones, it is observed that Apple has added ten additional drivers. Not only Apple, but Nvidia, for example, raised the number of drivers by 18 as well.

Currently, based on records, Apple does not have a car registered with the Licensing Office, and only the drivers are. Mercedes, for example, has 44 vehicles and 89 drivers registered, Tesla has 22 vehicles and 86 drivers registered, Nvidia has 14 vehicles and 244 drivers registered, and Toyota has 34 vehicles and 35 drivers registered.

Speculations have revealed that “Titan” is the name of Apple’s automobile project, which has been the subject of numerous reviews and rumors in recent years. It is unknown who will build the car, and whether Apple will do so on its own or as part of a collaborative effort.

However, reports have revealed that Apple’s autonomous vehicle production might be done in partnership with Kia or Hyundai, both of whom are regarded as major contenders. The fact that the California Licensing Office is now registering more drivers only fuels speculation regarding Apple’s future vehicle.
